A Cat A Day: 202/365

Today’s cat Mischief recently passed away and my friend Marie Connolly asked if I would feature her on my blog as a little tribute. Mischief belonged to Marie’s friend Maudie and was loved by all who knew her. This is what Marie told me:

” Mischief (aka ‘The Chief’) belonged to a very good friend Maudie. She’s been part of our lives for more than 12 years and her owner describes her as ‘the most clever, funny, legendary tabby cat ever’.

She is sorely missed, but won’t be forgotten. “

She had a lovely face, didn’t she? I have a second picture of Mischief which I will bring to you soon.

I’ve been saving this up for a couple of days . . . It’s ……. JOHN THE THREE-LEGGED CAT !!!!!!

My brother Dan, who is a professional historical Live Interpreter and Historical Entertainer , is currently running his three-week-long annual event at Southsea Castle. This is what he told me:

“I’m in Southsea doing my usual summer Tudor time travel thing. We can’t live in the castle last year, so I’ve rented a house for the cast. The house seems to come complete with friendly local cat!  He’s long haired enough that it actually took us a day or two of sightings to realise that he was missing a leg (you can’t tell when he’s curled up in the sun two back yards away!), at which point he was promptly named  Three-Legged John (after a man hilariously tangentially referenced in Southsea Castle records).

3LJ seems angry a lot, but he’s actually only lashing his tail for balance. He’s very friendly and comes to visit whenever the back door is open.  I’m sure this is nothing to do with the fact that we spoil him rotten with bacon and chicken treats!”

Sarah McCarthy’s next-door-neighbour cat seems to be keen on a trip to the supermarket, seaside or garden centre. Most cats I know run at top speed in the opposite direction from cars . . .

I strongly suspect this is a Lilac Point Siamese or Oriental of some kind. I’ll have to ask Sarah to do some detective work.

Hullo. My name is Patchy. I am a rock star. Hey, I’ve got this cool puzzle (see if you can do it):

Q – Who is the coolest most awesome cat in the world?
A – PAT_ HY (Hint: C)
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cool. Oh, and so is my brother, Sooty. He wanted to be in the picture, too, but unfortunately, he couldn’t make it
(evil grin).Sarcastic smile

I received this message this morning and felt I had no alternative but to bring Patchy to you immediately. It was the evil grin which convinced me . . .
I wonder what kept Sooty back?? Locked in a cupboard, trapped under Patchy’s paw . . . ??

This lovely menagerie belongs to Caroline Bailey. The kitty is Miss Pearl and the Yorkie is Lily, and the larger dog is called Daisy. Caroline has another Yorkie, who is called Dolly, who is a bit smaller than Lily. They are so comfortable and harmonious, aren’t they? Childhood exposure to Tom & Jerry taught me that cats and dogs are enemies and I still find it amazing when they cuddle up like this. A little miracle in my eyes . . .

I hereby challenge Caroline to capture all her cats and dogs in a single photograph!

I have to acknowledge Wimbledon in this 365 day cycle. I’m not big on Great British institutions, but I do love Wimbledon. This is Alex Bellars’ kitten Skimbleshanks following Andy Murray’s progress in the 3rd round. As I write, it’s one set all between Murray and his opponent Ljubicic.

We all wish Ljubicic would put a hat on, because we don’t like the way the top of his head looks.
