A Cat A Day 2013 #2

Cosmo (seen here on the right, with Willow) fell ill on 18th November and on the 22nd he died. It was a rare liver problem, which baffled the vet at first.

He was a great big handsome, gentle and loving cat. We were shocked and heartbroken to lose Cosmo and will continue to miss him every day for a long time. Poor old chap.

I hope that you enjoy your New Year’s Eve and send you every good wish for a happy and healthy 2013!

Here is Milka stretched out like a sleepy meerkat yesterday evening.

Please don’t continue reading this post if you are eating. Please.

Early this morning, Florence and Willow were lurking on the stairs and I think that Milka was too nervous to go past them to get to the litter tray. So he came in our bedroom and did the most enormous wee on our bed.

The weather is awful and it was impossible to wash and air the duvet outside, so since I was going to Ikea today anyway, John and I decided I would just pick up another cheap duvet and we’d have a spare. While there, I was chuffed to find that a duvet cover set which I’d liked for ages was reduced to ??20 (for a king size, whoop!), so I brought that home too.

We built the bits of furniture I’d bought and made up the bed with the new bedclothes and by that time I was desperate for a shower (anyway, it’s the law that you have to be clean to get into a bed with clean linen). Guess what? I left the bedroom door open and by the time I went back in, Florence had chucked up her dinner on my side of the bed.

Eeeuuww.

Our new little chap is settling in very well. He is impressively confident, stomping round the house as if he is ten feet tall, shouting and eating anything he can get near enough to (in addition to actual cat-food, he has so far tried a pea, some brussels sprout leaves, yoghurt, a freshly-made chocolate-orange fairy cake and artificial Christmas tree).

Although he is so small he would come off worse in a fight with a cowardly guinea-pig and doesn’t even depress the keys on my MacBook, resident cats Florence and Willow are afraid of him and have spent all day hiding.

I still haven’t re-named him; I haven’t yet found true inspiration. Among others, I have considered the following themes:

  • 2012 Olympic champions
  • the festive season
  • chocolate (he is a chocolate tabby-point)
  • Greek mythology and ancient history in general
  • P.G. Wodehouse
  • Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings

Tweet or FB me if you have any genius ideas, because we can’t keep calling him no-name.

It’s back and as pointless as ever!

For those of you who don’t know A Cat A Day, I set myself the challenge of posting to my blog every day in 2011 and I am proud to say that I managed it. After  couple of months of 2012 however, I lost heart and even became a little bored, so I gave up posting.

However, today a new kitten has come to live with us, so I’m starting again. particularly so that Jo, his breeder can follow his progress. He came to us with the name Praline, but we think we will give him our own name. In today’s photograph our tiny new chocolate tabby friend is having a well-earned rest on Isobel’s lap.

Thank you Jo, we think your special boy will be very happy with us.

A Cat A Day: 44/366

I didn’t post yesterday, so this is my second offering today.

I have spent hours today noodling purposelessly on the internet. Among the pointless things I have come across is a meme about cat breading. Yes, ‘breading’, not ‘breeding’. Of course, I had to waste a slice of plastic white and jump immediately on that bandwagon. I’m very easily led…

Willow saw what was coming and escaped before I could torment him too. I completely understand if you now unfriend me on FaceBook and unfollow me on Twitter.
