A Cat A Day: 13/366

Photographic evidence that Willow is very fond of Florence. She was sitting there first and he appeared and curled himself around her. The shadow in the top right of the picture is Cosmo, who is having a difficult phase at the moment. It’s taking him a while to adjust to the almost simultaneous loss of Rosie and the arrival of Florence. We are pretty sure that his eyesight is poor and that’s why he is so shy and easily frightened. If he can’t see or understand what is happening, it’s incomprehensible or positively scary. So, despite the fact that he’s huge, strong and impressively handsome, he’s a classic scaredy-cat.

A Cat A Day: 5/366

Ever since I got the iPad in December, I have been trying to get the cats to play with it. Turns out it was easy. All I needed was the 69p app, Catch The Mouse. Florence loves it. But she does find it hard to choose between that and her little red crinkly toy mouse, which Jo her breeder sent along with her.

Please excuse the living room; it needs a good vacuum.

Sweeet!

Happy New Year!

Bonne Année, Guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr and Feliz Año Nuevo.

This is my last post on my 365 Project blog. When I started, I just wanted to see if I could do the same thing every day for a whole year, no matter what it was. I almost achieved that and am very proud, having managed to post from the UK, France and Germany and brought you pictures and stories of large and small cats from all over the world.

My thanks go to each and every person who has read, contributed, commented, subscribed, re-tweeted and visited over the last twelve months. I absolutely would have given it up a long time ago if it hadn’t been for you all.

But this is not an Oscar speech, so the main thing to tell you is that I am going to do it all again. I have set up a new Posterous space at a-cat-a-day.posterous.com and hope that some of you will continue to check out the kitty news, pictures and stories over there.

In the meantime, here is pretty newly-named Florence.

Happy New Year!

Bonne Année, Guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr and Feliz Año Nuevo.

Welcome to my new A Cat A Day for 2012. I never intended to continue to blog daily the way I did in 2011, but with a poorly Rosie-cat and new little Florence in the house, I just felt I had to.

If you’re rejoining me, it’s great to see you back. If you’re a new reader, Welcome!!

I can’t keep this blog going without the kind contributions others make, so if you have a cat picture and or story you are happy to share with me, please do get in touch by adding a comment or finding me on twitter, where my username is @wizenedcrone.

In the meantime, here is pretty newly-named Florence.

It’s been a strange day concerning Rosie the cat and and Rose the kitten. I spent hours yesterday searching the internet and sending out enquiries to find a new kitten. I was totally lucky and came across a lovely little red-point girl kitten in Newcastle called Rose, who had been a little unlucky with the first home she went to from her lovely breeder Jo.

When things didn’t work out, Jo took Rose the kitten back and wondered whether to try again to sell her. Luckily for us, she did and I spotted the advert yesterday, 24 hours later. I wrote an email of application (I believe you have to prove yourself worthy of adopting a Siamese cat) and Jo called me back.

We thought we might suit each other and in the midst of all today’s worries about Rosie, we nipped up to Newcastle, met the family and brought Rose home. Jo explained that Rose the kitten is shy, but loving and would need lots of tender patience and care to settle her in.

I am pleased to report that the first few hours have been a dream. Rose the kitten yelled herself hoarse all the way home, but has coped brilliantly with everything that has happened.

She has hidden under and behind all the living room furniture, but is already comfortable with all four humans and has slept on me and is currently asleep on Isobel. She has a bed, her own litter tray, a food and water bowl and protection from the other cats (who are locked out of the room).

We feel very positive that things will work out for our new addition. We are thinking about a new name for her, because we can’t have a Rose and a Rosie! All we need now is positive news about grown-up Rosie.
