It proved to be difficult to take a photograph of a cat with my birthday cake.

Yesterday’s cats were Frank and Lucky. Rachel sent me lots of pictures, so here is another. This time, Frank is showing his IT skills and sending a few tweets. Clever cat.
Rachel Brockbank is one of the many lovely language-teaching people I have come to know through my Twitter network. Over time, I have met many of them in real life at conferences and teacher events, but I have yet to meet Rachel. I’m sure I will before too long.
Today’s cats are Lucky and Frank. Rachel says Frank likes watching television and tweeting, whilst Lucky is a little more reserved but loves lots of fussing. I have several more pictures of these two and will bring them to you between now and New Year.
Thanks Rachel!
Happy Friday, my friends. Malteser is pretending no-one can see him.
My friend Lisa recently moved to Zürich with her husband and two sons. It’s an exciting challenge for them all and Lisa is recording their new life on her blog here.
I’m following with particular interest and some envy, because I love Switzerland and spent my first couple of years of school there. Today, Lisa’s had a day out to Konstanz in Germany, which is on the Bodensee (we call it Lake Constance) and she took these photographs for me of some decorative metal cats outside an art gallery. Deswegen muss ich „Vielen Dank” sagen. Du bist so nett, Lisa.
Lynne McBoyle is a great contributor to A Cat A Day and I really appreciate the photos she shares with me. Lynne has sent me French, Scottish and Argentinian cats. This photograph arrived today and shows a very comfortable cat relaxing in Ernest Hemingway’s house at Key West in Florida. He left his house to the cats (in contrast, his Cuba home is full of dogs) and it now is home to a thriving colony of polydactyl felines. Polydactyly is the term for a genetic mutation which produces extra digits. It looks peculiar on a human being, but in cats it seems less odd. In the USA, these cats are seen as a separate breed, called the Mitten or Hemingway cat.

I have a little collection of pictures of Scatty who shares her home with Dughall McCormick. What are you doing Scatty? Are you camping?
Today’s cat photograph is of Pushkin, who passed away in February. As he grew older, he used to forget to put his tongue away after he had a wash. I know it wasn’t very kind of us, but we used to laugh at him;
it was impossible not to, really.
Cats like to help people do things. In the morning, Cosmo is at his most friendly and he really enjoys helping me get ready. I have explained several times that I can do it by myself, but he insists.
It’s always a worry, trying to integrate a new cat or cats into a household. It takes time, but I think this photograph really shows that first Malteser (rescued Easter 2010) and then Willow and Rosie (adopted December 2010) have really settled in. John and I are even thinking that a new kitten is just what they all need to keep them all young and lively.
