These partners in crime are Polly (on the table) and Merlin. I have been given kind permission to re-blog my friend Annalise’s photograph from her lovely Dogblog which features the much loved and naughty Merlin. Annalise says that she only just saved her dinner from them in time.
As I told her, I was brought up on a strict diet of Tom & Jerry, which taught me that dogs and cats can never live together. Each time I see this dictum disproved, it seems like a little bit of magic.

Weirdy-woo weather today, wasn’t it? I was a total meanie and took Milka outside to sample the snow when I got home. He was pretty brave considering that he’s still a skinny baby boy and had no clothes or shoes on at all.
I’ve tried to work out how to tell this story without it being an incomprehensible mess, but I think my writing skills aren’t up to it. Here is the simple edited version.
This cat was found in a Hartlepool garden a couple of days ago and she just stayed there. Eventually, the garden’s owner started asking around to see if anyone knew where she belonged. I heard about it because my friend Lynda rang to ask if I knew of anyone who had lost a Siamese.
It has been very cold today in Hartlepool and we have had flurries of snow and hail, so Lynda took the cat in (despite the potential mayhem when resident cat Fudge smelled or saw her). She was clearly not a stray, because Lynda reported she loved being cuddled. The plan was to take her to the vet’s tomorrow to find if she was micro-chipped.
However, the owners had placed an advert in the local paper, word got around and within a couple of hours had come to Lynda’s house to collect her. The cat is called PusPus and had walked a good long distance and crossed several major roads during her adventure. Her lady owner had been suffering sleepless nights and had virtually given up hope of PusPus’ return.
We once had our own lost cat mini-drama and I can’t imagine how horrible the last few days must have been for the owners. I bet PusPus either acquires a collar or becomes an indoor cat from now on!
As the wind howls around our windows, I am very glad to report such a happy ending to this particular story.

In the usual way of things, I’m only interested in real live cats, not pictures, ornaments or any other ‘cat tat’ as someone I know once called it. However, a few weeks ago I came across the work of a lady called Alison and just had to buy a little felted Siamese. It is only about 5cm tall and cute as can be. See Alison’s work here.
I have just got home from Year 9 Parents’ Evening. It’s been demanding, because I have five classes and teach four subjects. I have met and talked with 46 sets of parents. I now know I can do 2 1/2 minute-long appointments. I feel rather proud of myself.
Milka came to sit on me as soon as I plopped down onto the sofa, the little sweetie.
Foxy the cat lives with Shadow, who we met earlier this year. They belong to the grandma of one of my students. I am told that Foxy is a little shy, but affectionate. He is also on a diet, because he is currently somewhat over-cuddly.
Me too.
I don’t know their names, but these sleek healthy young cats are two more of the kittens Helen rescued as tiny sickly half-Siamese babies along with their Lilac point mum Luna. I’m sure Helen will remind me what they’re called.
Am full of mysterious ill-humour tonight. Perhaps there’s a storm coming. Time for bed to sleep it off (and escape from John shouting at the football match).

I have been made to leave my marking in the car and take a night off. I’ll have to face some of the consequences when I rise at 6am.
When I did 4 hours or so yesterday, Milka helped me. Can’t keep him away, really.
