A Cat A Day 2013 #2

Cosmo (seen here on the right, with Willow) fell ill on 18th November and on the 22nd he died. It was a rare liver problem, which baffled the vet at first.

He was a great big handsome, gentle and loving cat. We were shocked and heartbroken to lose Cosmo and will continue to miss him every day for a long time. Poor old chap.

Isobel took this beautiful picture of Willow this morning.

We are ultra-sensitive to the cats’ health at the moment and John has noticed that Willow doesn’t come to him and miaow for food quite as much as usual. I think he’s imagining it, but we’re taking him for a quick vet visit next week anyway, because we need peace of mind after our awful January.

Photographic evidence that Willow is very fond of Florence. She was sitting there first and he appeared and curled himself around her. The shadow in the top right of the picture is Cosmo, who is having a difficult phase at the moment. It’s taking him a while to adjust to the almost simultaneous loss of Rosie and the arrival of Florence. We are pretty sure that his eyesight is poor and that’s why he is so shy and easily frightened. If he can’t see or understand what is happening, it’s incomprehensible or positively scary. So, despite the fact that he’s huge, strong and impressively handsome, he’s a classic scaredy-cat.

Still so sad today. Because am in a new classroom, my pupils have been very well behaved today (it seems to have had some psychological effect). I needed this, because I didn’t sleep well and feel very out of sorts.

Emma (Rosie’s original mum, who had her from a kitten to the age of 5), sent me lots of pictures of Rosie and here she is with Willow when he was a baby kitten. I can’t help but smile when I look at this adorable photograph.
