I have waited since January for a photograph of my friend Helena Butterfield’s cat Phoebe. She emailed this picture of her out the blue tonight. I’m tickled that she took Phoebe’s picture just as she was making herself comfortable beside Helena’s laptop. It’s just how I have always imagined Phoebe. I hope Helena takes and sends another photograph soon.
Today was our final day in France and I’m just trying to squeeze all my French goodies into my suitcase. My Cat A Day blog seems to have interested my French friends and colleagues. They think I’m maybe a little odd, but they like to see their cats on the internet. I’m hoping even to be able to show the Head Teacher’s cat as a guest one day soon. In the meantime, I’m delighted to show another photograph of Minette, who lives at the house where I am staying. I must also mention again how kind my host family, Michel and Genevi??ve have been. I will never forget my first raclette!

Platon (French for ‘Plato’) belongs to Corinne David, who is the Intendate (sort of Bursar) of our French partner school. Corinne has kindly hosted teachers on the exchange for two years in a row. We love to stay with her because she is kind, fun and a great cook. PLUS, she lives AT the school, so if you stay at he appartment, you can sleep late. Platon prowls round the school playground and buildings all night and rules the place with a furry grey paw.

Today’s cat was discovered in the beautiful mediaeval city of Albi in South West France. The cathedral there is an incredible Unesco World Heritage site and our English exchange students made us very proud during the guided tour we enjoyed. They asked lots of good questions and were genuinely interested in the answers.

This wonderful creature is called Minette and she is very friendly, as are my lovely hosts Michel et Geneviève. Courtesy of Minette I have also learned that a tortoiseshell cat is called ‘une isabelle’ in French. Of course, I think this is marvellous, because my gorgeous daughter is named Isobel.
Cosmo and Willow at 2:30am this morning just before I left home to go on the French exchange. I’m at Gatwick, about to board a flight to Toulouse. A few days until the next blogpost, I guess. Au revoir!

I really admire the way she deals with difficult, unwell, naughty or disorganised students and I try to learn what I can from her when I see her in action. These two cats belong to her and this is what she tells me about them:
Geordie and Ginger are my 13+ year-old rescue cats (allegedly brother and sister, although I doubt that). The most docile, affectionate and friendly lapcats in the world.
It’s Red Nose Day! Malteser wouldn’t wear the nose, so Isobel and John wore it instead.
As I’m sure all my readers know, I’m a teacher. Today’s guest cat belongs to a Year 11 of mine called Jason Loveridge (I have permission for the namecheck). As well as being an excellent Germanist, all-round gifted pupil and deputy Head Boy, Jason also plays the drums in a band. He took these pictures of Poppet when she sneaked into his bass drum for a kip.
Jason also brought me his band’s first recording to listen to and I was so impressed; a catchy, funny, melodic track played by a really tight band of excellent musicians. Love it.
